Power 99’s Powerhouse 2017 met its expectation and more. While surprise guests are expected, wedding proposals are not quite the norm. A moment in hip hop history was made when Offset of Migos proposed to hip hop’s newest member of royalty, Cardi B. The proposal was sealed with an 8-carat teardrop shaped diamond engagement ring. Cardi B accepted the proposal in front of more than nineteen thousand fans at the sold-out Wells Fargo.

From beginning to end, each of the performers put on worthwhile performances. The tri state area’s up and coming artists had the first part of the show. South Philly’s Nizzy Straws, Power 99’s Diamond in The Rough contest winner Pauly Dinero from Wilmington, and Reco Havoc of Southwest Philly were the first three acts of the show. Up next, Playboi Carti performed his hit “Magnolia.” Following, YFN Lucci amped the crowd up with his hit “Everyday We Lit”. Each of these freshmen of hip hop showed why you should keep an ear out for them.

After YFN Lucci’s set French Montana emerged on to the stage representing Philly doting a 76ers jacket. Performing his tracks “Hot N” remix, Loyal, Work and All the Way Up, the crowd rocked with French Montana during his entire performance. Closing his set with “Unforgettable,” French left the crowd wanting more.

At this point, you can feel the anticipation of the next performer. Rick Ross is the first member of MMG to perform for the evening. Displaying his newly transformed physique, Ross performed a medley of songs beginning with “B.M.F.”, “Trap”, “Hustlin”, and “I’m Not a Star”. YFN Lucci then returned to the stage to perform the summer hit “Heartless” alongside Rick Ross. This was not the end of the performance. Ross continued to perform “F Wit Me”, “Diced Pineapples”, “Aston Martin Music”, “Pop That”, and ending his performance with “On One”.

Rick Ross got the crowd hype. However, the energy Lil Uzi Vert displayed was electrifying. Performing for his hometown, Lil Uzi shouted out every part of the city. Even adding he used to talk to a lot of girls from West Philly. During his performance, Lil Uzi brought Playboi Carti back out to perform their collaboration “Woke Up Like This”. Concluding his performance, Lil Uzi performed “XO Tour Life” twice exclaiming the hit recently went four times platinum.

Migos took to the stage next. As they performed their hits “Slippery”, “Hannah Montana”, “Fight Night”, “Pipe It Up” and “Bad and Boujee” a uniquely diverse crowd rocked and sang along to each song. No one expected what was to come next. Offset of Migos proposed to Cardi B traditionally on one knee in front of an arena full of eager fans. Cardi B was full of emotion as she accepted the proposal.

Cardi B has had a remarkable year. Making Billboard chart history, and now a marriage proposal Cardi B still had to take the Powerhouse stage. Exclaiming she was “too emotional, but still gonna keep it gangsta,” Cardi opened with one of her first hits “Foreva”. Following Cardi performed “Lick”, chart topping “Bodak Yellow”, and gave fans a taste of “No Limit”.

Yet to be seen was the current King of Philly, Meek Mill. Giving Philly what they wanted Meek performed “Wins and Losses” and “Glow Up”. North Philly native Li Uzi Vert came back out as they performed “F That Check Up”.  More hits from Meek’s Wins and Losses including “Fall Thru”, and “Whatever You Need” were dedicated to the ladies in the crowd. Not quite finished, Meek brought out his bredren in the game Yo Gotti to perform “F.U’. Other hits Meek performed included “Save Me”, We Ball”, and of course the anthem “Dreams and Nightmares”.

After the King of Philly Meek Mill, there was but one performer left to take the stage, Travis Scott.  Performing hits “Butterfly Effect”, “Goosebumps” and “Pick Up the Phone” Travis appropriately closed the show. In the end, Powerhouse 2017 was yet another show to go down in the books. As always, next year’s show has quite the expectation to meet to say the least.
